Our Phonics and Early Reading lead is Mrs.C. Rogers
At Newbury Park, we use the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised scheme to teach phonics. This systematic and comprehensive approach ensures that all children develop the essential skills needed to become confident readers and writers. The program is designed to support children in learning phonics step-by-step, with clear progression and regular assessments to monitor their understanding. Through engaging activities, interactive lessons, and a strong focus on blending and segmenting, Little Wandle helps our pupils build a solid foundation in phonics, setting them up for success in their reading journey.

Phonics Screening in June
In June, pupils will be participating in the Phonics Screening Check, an important assessment to evaluate their phonics skills. This check helps pupils build confidence and fluency in reading. To support your child’s preparation and ensure they feel ready, we’ve provided helpful resources. For more information on the Phonics Screening Check and ways you can support your child’s learning at home, please see the attached link.
