English Reading At Newbury Park
Our English Reading lead is Mrs. C. Rogers
At Newbury Park, we are committed to fostering a love of reading in all our pupils. We believe that reading is a key skill that unlocks opportunities for learning across all subjects. Our phonics programme, Little Wandle, provides a strong foundation for early readers, while our broader curriculum offers a wide range of books and texts to inspire and challenge pupils. Through regular reading sessions, guided practice, and dedicated reading skills lessons, we aim to support every child in becoming a confident and enthusiastic reader, developing both their skills and a lifelong love for books.

A Wonderful Author Visit
We would like to say a huge thank you to Banji Alexander for his inspiring visit to our school. The children thoroughly enjoyed meeting him, taking part in his engaging workshops, and learning his uplifting song, New King.
We were delighted by the enthusiasm shown by both our pupils and families, whose support for Banji's books helped make the visit such a success. The children were highly engaged throughout the day, predicting what the book was about, asking thoughtful questions, and participating enthusiastically in the workshops.
Thank you to everyone who helped make this special event such a memorable experience for our school community! We look forward to welcoming Banji back in the future with his new book and song

Reading Buddies
Each half term, we participate in our Reading Buddies program, where we team up with different year groups from our houses to read together. We love this process, as it allows us to share our favorite books, connect with others, and have lots of fun while fostering a love for reading!
