Maths At Newbury Park
Our Maths lead is Mrs. S. Strange
At Newbury Park Primary, we prioritise a rich, balanced, and progressive curriculum that emphasises mathematical reasoning, problem-solving, and conceptual fluency, underpinned by our core values of creativity, compassion, courage, and collaboration. Mathematics equips pupils with the skills to understand and navigate the world around them, enabling them to calculate, reason, and solve problems. It fosters an appreciation of the relationships and patterns in number and space, encouraging curiosity in their everyday life experiences.
Our goal is to nurture confident and fluent mathematicians who can apply their knowledge creatively to a range of problems, showing both resilience and courage in the face of challenges. Pupils will develop the ability to reason about mathematical concepts, make meaningful connections within the curriculum and beyond, and collaborate effectively with their peers. We aim to cultivate independent problem-solvers who not only embrace challenges but also support one another, achieving together through shared learning experiences.

Home Learning Platforms
- NumBots - NumBots develops pupils’ recall and fluency in mental
addition and subtraction, moving pupils from counting to calculating. The homework is set once a week and children are expected to complete it. (Numbots)
- TT Rockstars - Times Tables Rock Stars(TTRS) is our online school Maths programme that boosts children’s fluency and recall in multiplication and division. It is essential that children learn their times tables as it feeds into every aspect
of mathematics. Children learn the tables in a sequence that builds up their ability to recall them. There are no complicated calculations involved; just simple fact learning followed by repetition. (Times Tables Rock Stars).
Multiplication Time Check
In Year 4, pupils will be participating in the Multiplication Time Check (MTC), a key milestone to assess their mastery of multiplication facts. The MTC helps pupils build fluency and confidence in multiplication. For more information on the MTC and how you can support your child, please see the attached link.

Money-themed Maths Activities
For the first time ever, National Numeracy Day has a theme: money.
Financial education is a vital theme for children if we are to tackle the fact that our young adults are both the most maths-anxious and have the highest need for numeracy in order to better manage their money.
It's never too early to make the link between numbers and money with children. Here you can find activities for different ages that are flexible and help to start conversations about money:
