Family Learning Courses
Children and parents in our Reception year group have the opportunity to take part in a family learning English course at Newbury Park Primary School. This course is run at school by the Redbridge Institute of Adult Education.
The course has looked at some of the ways children develop and learn their English skills in school covering areas such as : speaking and listening, phonics, emergent writing, various reading skills, developing knowledge of the alphabet and high-frequency words (tricky words) as well as discussing the range of texts our children study such as stories, poems, instructional texts and letters.
Parents have the opportunity to work alongside their children every week, enjoying many different, fun activities including playing phonic games, making puppets and writing postcards together.
There are proven huge benefits to becoming involved with family learning. The children love to learn alongside their parents and the parents gain a deeper understanding of how to best support their child at this stage of their learning.
In addition to this, parents have time to further develop their own English skills and have the opportunity to take a recognised qualification which is offered as part of the course.
The courses are FREE to all parents in Reception and a FREE crèche is also provided for those parents who have younger children to care for. The courses run on site here at Newbury Park.
Look out for further courses ; family maths is coming soon !
